Bhakti Rose - Things I'm Loving

Namaste dear friends,

Thank you for being here in this virtual space with me.  Today I share my usual first of the month round up of ‘Things I’m Loving’. This month is a big one for me.  I’m wrapping up many projects before I go on maternity leave to birth my fifth child – a baby girl.  I’ll take 40 days of complete rest and quiet after she is born, a time of hibernation and retreat.  But before that this week I’m excited to be preparing for the Bhakti Women Summit which is live online (and free!) and starts this Friday.

This month I’m …

Grateful for my teachers and lineage in the yoga tradition.  I’ve just been emailing with my beloved teacher Sharon Gannon (Jivamukti Yoga) and I’m so excited to share with you the juicy conversation her and I have planned, please do join us if you can.

Preparing for birth and my postnatal rest by listening to this podcast and reading this book (again!). I’ve even been revisiting some of my own material in the Yoga of Birth online training.

Inspired by this post on Instagram which talked about the difference between ‘playing with paint’ and ‘making art’.  I’m not a visual artist but I consider my writing work as a form of artistic and creative expression (and am always grateful to Rockpool Publishing for supporting that vision). Where I get stuck is in thinking I ‘should’ be very serious in my writing and my work in the world. Stuck in thinking I need to be grown up and ‘professional’. I’m slowly letting this go and becoming more relaxed. I did some writing mentoring with Jordanna Levin earlier this year and her main feedback for me was the same. She said I’m really funny when I’m teaching in person and much more serious in my writing. I did some rewriting that was a lot looser and more free and it was humorous too! I am learning all the time. Let’s all set the intention to ‘play with paint’ rather than ‘making art’ in our creative work.

Reflecting on ‘surrender’.  Having freedom doesn’t mean doing whatever you want.  True freedom comes when you discipline your mind to do what is right, regardless of whatever you want.’ Bhagavad Gita chapter 3, verse 34

This verse has been particularly apt for me as we come towards the end of the school holidays.  Parenting is so often the ultimate place of surrender and discipline for me.

Watching videos from herbalist and spiritual teacher Asia Suler.  This woman has a way with plant medicine and a connection to the natural world that inspires me deeply. She’s also a wonderful teacher.  Check out her Valentines Self-Love reflections here.

Listening to this beautiful playlist I created for birthing (also great for a yoga practice) and this one for quiet moments of contemplation (I play this one at bath-time in the evenings for my little kiddos and it creates the perfect bedtime mood).

Organising my home and my work for some maternity leave coming very soon.  The mentoring I do with Elena Brower has inspired the way I work with my schedule to be both very productive and not stressful. Her insights in time management and aligning our work with our values have been so helpful to me and it is the subject I asked her to speak on for the Bhakti Women’s Summit this year (catch her for free at 8.15am this Saturday, Sydney time).  I’m nesting and decluttering like a champion right now!

With so much love and gratitude from my heart to yours,

Katie Rose
