Lessons from High School Geography

Namaste dear friends,

When I was 16 I came top of my entire County in Geography exams. This is still baffling to me because I'm absolutely appalling at navigation and certainly not naturally drawn to geology or anything like that (although I do love crystals!). I remember my Geography teacher very well, her name was Ms Bell.  I remember specifically that she was a Ms rather than a Miss or a Mrs and there was much speculation about why this was because, I guess, to not publicly declare yourself married or unmarried was a bit 'feminist' and 'out there' back then.

Anyway I loved Ms Bell and I'm pretty sure the reason I smashed High School Geography out of the park was because of her.

Because I spend so much of my time teaching these days I've pondered what was it about her that made her such a great educator and concluded two things. One she taught in easy to remember chunks and two her classes were really fun. The chunks part might sound obvious but think back to High School (or any other learning you've done since) and note how much rambling and fluff is padded around the core content.

When it comes to really wanting to learn new information less is often more. I can still see her clear lesson plans (which she would share with us so we knew where we were heading) and my very-easy-to-make-revision-notes-out-of workbook for those classes.  Sedimentary rock formations and the history of coal mining in Wales here we come ;)

Ms Bell would often (I now realise deliberately) turn up for class late and give us some time to mess around for a bit before the serious business of learning happened. I felt she was invested in our learning. She seemed to genuinely care that we 'got' what she was teaching.

All of this is to say that I've been reflecting on how I can make my online trainings even better. I'm going to be running a big SALE at the end of the month and for those of you who sign up to work with me I want to make sure you have an engaged and fulfilling experience.  Like Ms. Bell, I care that you do the work and enjoy the learning.

With this in mind I have two new team members supporting me to 'onboard' everyone who joins us in Yoga of Birth or Ayurveda Goddess later this month.

Kate Wolfe will be helping me support Yoga of Birth newbies.  She is a doula, prenatal yoga teacher, mumma and of course a graduate of the training herself.  She will be available to support and assist you as you get stuck into learning about pregnancy yoga and beyond.

Some of you will know Brianne Keil as the wonder-woman behind community engagement in the Bhakti Rose Collective facebook group.  She will be supporting all of the new Ayurveda Goddesses as we jump into the joyful work of transforming our lives step-by-step through this powerful program.

When you join me for a learning online experience I'm here for you.  I value and prioritise being accessible and supporting your learning journey.

It's a funny time of year isn't?  Almost the end but we're still in the thick of life and school and busy-ness. I hope you're thriving and I'm looking forward to connecting later in the month.

Much love,

Katie Rose

P.S. I understand that Black Friday is an American thing and it's not that I'm particularly into the sentiment of it as a day.  But just as I'll take any excuse for a party I'll also take any excuse to offer you a discount.  I want to get these teachings into your hands at a price you can afford and with a bunch of juicy additions you can benefit from.  Oh and when I say 'any excuse for a party' for me these days that means a mocktail, some close friends and an end time of around 9pm. I was never much of a party girl or drinker but I gave up drinking completely a couple of years ago and I don't see myself going back to it. So don't get too excited!!
