Things Iā€™m Loving This Month (from Katie Rose)

things i'm loving Oct 01, 2022

Hi dear friends,

I love this time of year! Here in Sydney, the weather is warming up but it's not ridiculously hot yet. The spring school holidays are my favourite and my partner and I are taking the crew of seven (yes, seven) children down to Bendalong on the South Coast this week for beach and bush adventures. The age range is 6 months to 13 years. Just recently we upgraded my car to something bigger. I've finally succumbed to the necessary mini-van. Adventures indeed!!

What else have I been enjoying and pondering this last month? Here's a random and rambling snapshot from me:

SCHOOL GARDEN - I often get asked about where I send my kids to school. For primary I'm so fortunate that our local public school is incredible and all my kids have gone / are going there. The school supports Project Based Learning and Flexible Learning Spaces (the kids can choose to go and do their school work in purpose-created garden classroom spaces if they want to!). It's as close to a Steiner school that the public system has and I count my blessings daily that we are part of this community. The school also has a huge and abundant community garden that we are members of. The perfect place for an after school hang out with the chooks. As far as High School goes I honestly spent years agonising over where to send the older boys. In the end I settled with the local public school, which I still feel mixed about. I think I just feel mixed about the world that teenagers are growing up in these days. It's a jungle out there and like all mums I just pray I've equipped my children to navigate the craziness.

FAMOUS PEOPLE - When I lived in London and worked at TriYoga it was a running joke that I never recognised any of the famous clientele. I don't consume much mainstream media so unless you were a Spice Girl or Madonna I probably didn't recognise you. Fast-forward a few years and one of my children went to pre-school with Marta Dussledorp's daugther here in Sydney. Marta and I became 'mum friends' and our kids played together. One day I asked her 'what do you do?' and she said (humbly!) 'I'm an actor'. A quick google search later and of course I was mortified! Anyway - recently I've started watching 'A Place to Call Home' on Binge. It's a wonderful Aussie drama set in the 1950's, Marta's character Sarah plays a nurse. It's easy and beautiful to watch ... perfect wind down at the end of a long day material.

THIS MUSIC TRACK - I love India Arie and I love Deva Premal so this one has been on repeat for me recently. This interview with the artists is also very inspiring. I've been fortunate enough to spend time with Deva and she is one of the purest spirits I've ever met (which is reflected in her angelic voice).

SPRING CLEANING - I've recently done a big, deep clean of the house (mostly with the baby on my back in my beloved Ergo) ... it feels so good for our home to be all fresh and bright. This cleaning product is an all-time (multi-use) favourite. And in case you missed it on social media, this article has been my domestic duties inspiration for years.

THIS BOOK - I loved Pranada Comtois's first book 'Wise Love' and have recommended it many times. I'm currently halfway through her more recent 'Bhakti Shakti' and it's utterly wonderful. It is quite dense in some places (probably not the best option for those new to yoga philosophy), but her explorations and reflections on the relationship of individuals to the Source / the Divine and the true essence of bhakti is second to none.

FACEBOOK CHALLENGES - As many of you know I ran my own Facebook 'Spring Reset' challenge in September. It was such a big success and joy. I'm a fan of intensive challenges (because: pitta) and I've be a student in a couple of great ones recently. These are about running an online business rather than yoga specifically but I'm sharing because I know many of you do run a business and both of these challenges were excellent. This with Rachel Rodgers (I love her!) and this on understanding Google Ads (yawn! but Kaity made it come alive and was so generous with her time and energy) - both were fab.

I know this online space can sometimes feel a little strange but please know that I really do mean it when I say I'm here for you. It's my honour to serve and support this community - please reach out to me if I can support you in any way.

With great love all is possible,

Katie Rose x
